Joann Ekstrom, Academy Coach

After many years as a professional educator, Joann Ekstrom now serves as a coach for the Washington State Leadership Academy.

She spent eight years as a classroom teacher in Republic, one of the smaller districts in the state, followed by 23 years with Spokane Public Schools, one of the larger. There, she worked as a library teacher, principals’ assistant, principal, and certificated staff support director. For the past two years, she has supervised masters in teaching (MIT) students for WSU–Spokane and served as an administrative coach for Cheney Public Schools.

Joann has been recognized throughout her career as a strong advocate for the educational and personal needs of children. She employs a collaborative, problem-solving approach and has a history of successfully guiding colleagues through the process of identifying and addressing their unique educational concerns. She is very pleased to participate in this program, and feels fortunate to be able to assist school administrators in implementing solutions to help all students achieve their full potential.
