Jean Lane, Instructor

Jean Lane is an instructor for the Washington State Leadership Academy, serving in ESD 101. She also holds the role of District Improvement Facilitator for Tukwila School District.

Having retired from Richland School District in June 2010, Jean spent half of her career as an elementary teacher in Eastern Washington rural schools. She moved to administration and became an elementary principal for Richland School District in 1992. Jean then served in the roles of executive director of elementary, assistant superintendent of instruction, and deputy superintendent before moving to the superintendent role in Richland. She also is an adjunct professor for Washington State University.

Assessment systems, sustainability of program, and quality management tools were an emphasis of Jean's leadership. Richland was the first school district in the state to receive recognition from the Washington State Quality Award organization. The school district teachers and leaders utilized Powerful Teaching and Learning structures, Professional Learning Communities and initiated the implementation of Response to Intervention practices throughout the K–12 system.

Jean earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Eastern Washington University and a doctorate degree from Washington State University. Awards include the Crystal Apple Special Achievement Award, Student Achievement Leadership Recognition from SEWASA, and the Excellence in Education Leadership Award from the University Council for Educational Administration.
