After many years as a professional educator, Joann Ekstrom now serves as a coach for the Washington State Leadership Academy.
She spent eight years as a classroom teacher in Republic, one of the smaller districts in the state, followed by twenty-three years with Spokane Public Schools, one of the larger. There, she worked as a library teacher, principals’ assistant, principal, and certificated staff support director.
After retirement she supervised MIT students for WSU-Spokane and served as an administrative coach and substitute principal for Cheney Public Schools.
Her work with WSLA began in 2009, and has included a two-year cycle with Colfax, Freeman (for 3 years), Reardan-Edwall, and Oakesdale School Districts.
Joann has been recognized throughout her career as a strong advocate for the educational and personal needs of children. She employs a collaborative, problem-solving approach and feels fortunate to be able to assist school administrators and teacher leaders in implementing solutions to help all students achieve to their full potential!
