Learning is not limited to WSLA participants:
Coaches capture learning moments at recent training

At the April 11, 2011, training, WSLA coaches reflected on their work as instructional coaches and shared how the experience has influenced their individual professional growth.

During my time as a WSLA coach I have:

  • Learned to pause longer, think deeper and ask better questions.
  • Added depth to my professional tool kit.
  • Reaffirmed my commitment to public education as a civil right for all students.
  • Learned about the power of working at a Central Office—from a Principal’s perspective.
  • Marveled at the complexity of making change.
  • Become more humble.
  • Taken my experiences and integrated them with new learning for the purpose of helping others.
  • Reinforced my belief about the need for teams to work together as a finely-tuned system.
  • Learned from and been mentored by my colleagues who have influenced me by sharing their wisdom, experiences and friendship.
  • Practiced not telling others what to do, but rather, worked harder at helping others through process and discovery.
  • Become convinced the work is about finding complex human solutions rather than solving technical problems.
  • Discovered old answers do not fix new problems.
