Leadership in Classroom Instruction

“Leadership is second only to classroom instruction among all school-related factors that contribute to what students learn in school.” (How Leadership Influences Student Learning, 2004) The report continued with “…the positive effects of leadership are greatest in schools and districts with the greatest needs.”
The Washington State Leadership Academy strives to help all leaders look deeply at the work they are currently doing and then implement well researched and designed plans that enhance student achievement in each classroom. The foundation is to become proficient in using the Cycle of Inquiry to address all educational issues. A strong, aligned, and focused system works on continuous improvement. A shared vision of what good teaching and learning looks like, alignment of all resources to meet the needs of each student, and strong support of the instructional core places a district in a position of increasing the achievement of each student in their care.
The Leadership Academy is designed to help each system achieve this goal. The use of the resources learned in the trainings and the resources on the web site will also enhance the growth and strength of each system. Visit the website often, contact the coaches and instructors with questions, add to the discussion board, invest yourself in this process. The more we learn and support each other the stronger our systems will be.
